Fox News Calling MD for Cardin - With Steele Ahead and Only 1% Counted?
If this turns out to be accurate, I'll be annoyed, of course; but with only 1% reporting and Steele 11% ahead, Fox News Channel is going ahead and calling Maryland... for Ben Cardin!
Sorry, but I'm going to wait to change the "Tail of the Tape" until we see a lot more precincts reporting than that.
Yeesh!

I think they are going off of the exit polling data that they don't really have yet (wink-wink, nudge-nudge). Pretty sad that they are doing that... I looked at MSNBC's overview stats before they entered any data and they had called all of the races with a democrat advantage in the house of +7.
This was obviously just their default entries, but it was listed as 'called'. Must've made somebody feel pretty good to type THAT in.

I know I'm late... But CNN has the data broken down, and although Steele has a commanding lead, he can't pick up many more votes, while Cardin has a HUGE number of votes in sections that are leaning HARD his way -- and which are only 50% in.
So I'm afraid it doesn't look good.
It's possible... But it would be a surprise.

Well, they were right, weren't they?
Early election returns can be very useful to the wonks who know everything there is to know about every precint that has or hasn't been counted, but they are meaningless to the rest of us. I can't remember a single California election I've followed since 1992 that didn't have early returns showing the Republicans cleaning house.
