Deliver us from the "Birthers"

Hatched by Dave Ross

If there’s anything nuttier than the Harvard University professor Henry Gates trying to stir up sympathy for his “black man in America” plight because a cop asked to see his ID when he was seen breaking into his own home, it’s watching the “Birther” nutcases continue to pursue the lunacy that somehow President Barack Obama is not a natural-born American citizen.

Even though that eminent southender John McCain (the horse was going north, you see) and his people would have loved to come up with proof that “The One” wasn’t a natural-born citizen, they didn’t find any substance to the claim. Don’t you think that if there were something that proved that Obama was actually a native born African that they would have found it -- and exploited it? Even McCain was not such an incompetent candidate that he would have let that easy pitch go by without swinging at it!

This ludicrous obsession, which is fanned by far right wing loons like Michael Savage and Alan Keyes, and by Democrat Philip J. Berg -- but not, you’ll notice, by savvy political observers like Rush Limbaugh -- is the equivalent of those who say that the CIA brought down the Twin Towers, or that Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were actually in Studio 51 faking the moon landing 40 years ago.

Lord knows there are enough conspiracy theories going around on both ends of the political spectrum. All you have to do is log onto the Daily Kos or the Huffington Post, where they continue to blame Swine Flu or the Heartbreak of Psoriasis on Dick Cheney or George Bush. But I really hate to see conservatives wasting their energy and making themselves and fellow Republicans look ridiculous by pursuing something that makes people look at them like they look at homeless people who walk around without cell phones, yet still talk to themselves.

We have plenty to fight Obama on, such as attacking Bush for spending too much, and then spending four times as much, or for taking over the car industry or for taking over health care or for taking over … actually I can’t think of anything he hasn’t tried to take over.

Let’s leave silly conspiracy theories for the silly and marshal our adult arguments to take down this socialist!

Frankly, I would like to see Obama's original birth certificate, John Kerry's military records and that stuff that Sandy Berger tried to sneak out of the US Archive.

Does that make me a "Swift-sox-birther" ?

Actually, if you want a real conspiracy theory, how about claiming that Obama is behind the birth certificate nonsense himself. That is why he is refusing to authorize the release of the document. He is carefully trying to make all his opponents look as if they were crazy.

Then again, perhaps it is just because he is an arrogant and narcissistic politician who refuses to be "forced" to do or say anything and can never admit that he has ever been wrong about anything. Thus, once he succumbed to his initial instinctive response to say no to any request by "us peasants", he could never retreat on the issue.

I know you will scoff at this, but I have been doing a little research on what is claimed. Not that it would make any difference. Seems it is easy to get a certificate that would indicate a Hawaiian birth without that actually having taken place. I believe Barack's sister is also credited with being born in Hawaii though she was not. Anyway whatever document the person in charge of such things in Hawaii claims to have seen still does not prove much about his birth. It would be simple. I just want to know who the doctor was that attended and at what hospital. The cerificate of live birth does not include that information. In 1961 a 17 year old female was not able to confer citizenship upon offspring if the father was a foreign national. If Barack Hussein Obama Sr. is his father, Obama is not a natural born citizen as his father confered upon him British citizenship. The document shown on TV lists his race as African. In 1961, when Obama was born, his race was referred to as Negro. Kind of remindes me of the Dan Rather report written in a style not available till years later. I don't know about conspiracies however something stinks here.

Zelsdorf2:

I can't answer for Dave Ross, but have my own question for you...

I just want to know who the doctor was that attended and at what hospital.

Why? What difference does it make? What do you expect to happen, even if birthers were able to find evidence that B.O. is not a native-born American?

What do you honestly think would be the real-world effect of such a revelation? Do you imagine the federal courts would wade into such a politicized controversy and order him removed from office? Do you think his supporters would abruptly fall away from him in droves after hearing that he was actually born in Kenya rather than Hawaii?

This conspiracy seems the most pointless exercise in futility I have seen in decades. First, it's almost certainly false; second, even if it were true, it would have no effect whatsoever on anybody.

Its only function is to distract people's attention from the real scandals: How the One is governing from the Left, how the Left-dominated Congress is enacting Obama's radical legislation, and how the fawning press is refusing to hold Barack Obama's nose to the fire... on anything.

If Obama if found to be unqualifed to be President, everything he has signed into law would be null and void.

Zelsdorf, If you believe that, you have let someone make a fool of you.

Like it or not, Barack H. Obama is the President of the United States. He was elected; he was sworn in. Everything bill he has signed into law is legally enacted.

Even were he found to be constitutionally unqualified, there is no provision in the Constitution that allows us to retroactively erase him from the books. At best, it could be an element in a future impeachment hearing... but with the Democrats firmly in control of the Congress, that will never, ever happen.

It's a moot point anyway, because the Supreme Court is not going to allow a lawsuit to unseat the current president: The liberal members wouldn't go for it because they like Obama, and the conservative members would vote against such an outcome because they don't believe the Court should decide essentially political questions like who is to be president... the vote would be 9-0 against removing Obama.

There is no provision for retroactively making Obama into an "unPresident;" Court-ordered removal is impossible; and impeachment is an absurdity. Therefore, this crusade is futile, useful only to Obama himself, because it allows him to portray ordinary Republicans as foaming at the mouth.

Plus, there is the pesky fact that not a shred of evidence points to Obama being born anywhere but Hawaii. However "iffy" you may think the record for a Hawaiian birth, I assure you the record for a Kenyan birth is infinitely iffier (in fact, such a "record" is non-existent).

You have as much chance of causing any change to the status of Barack Obama being president by demanding ever more exotic versions of his birth certificate as Oliver Stone has of indicting Lyndon Johnson, J. Edgar Hoover, the CIA, and the entire 101st Airborne for Kennedy's assassination.

We hold these truths to be self evident:

  • That Franklin Delano Roosevelt did not fake the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor;
  • That Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated John F. Kennedy (and was the lone gunman);
  • That a dozen American astronauts walked on the Moon between July 21st, 1969 (Neil Armstrong) and December 14th, 1972 (Eugene Cernan);
  • That President George W. Bush was properly elected President on November 7th, 2000 (no matter how long it took to determine that fact);
  • That nineteen Islamic militants working for al-Qaeda hijacked airplanes and used them to knock down the two World Trade Centers towers, damage the Pentagon, and drive a plane into a Pennsylvania field;
  • That President George W. Bush did not cause Hurricane Katrina;
  • That Barack H. Obama is a natural-born American citizen, properly (if foolishly) elected President on November 4th, 2008, duly sworn, and is the legitimate (if radical, misguided, and destructive of America's national character) POTUS.
