Sitemeter Killing Internet Explorer 7

Hatched by Dafydd

I just heard from a friend of mine that, as of sometime this evening, something changed in Sitemeter that caused Internet Explorer 7 to curl up and die when some poor fool was unlucky enough to try to use it to view Big Lizards -- or any other blog with a Sitemeter display.

I have commented out the Sitemeter Javascript thingie on all pages; I will begin the rebuilding process, which should take about 45 minutes or so.

You should be able to view the main page of Big Lizards via IE now; and you'll be able to see the whole thing using IE whenever the rebuild finishes.

Once this is all sorted out, I'll uncomment the script and rebuild again.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Whatever it is the issue is on the server side at sitemeter but you still have to disable counter.js locally to keep it from execution to hang ie7.

My understanding is ie8 has mixed results.

I was hanging with ie7 on many places and switch the tabs I had open on ie7 over to an instance of Opera to work around the issue.

Switch to Firefox as your browser of choice. Just type Firefox into your browser and that will take you to the FF site. Download it and run it and it will switch everything favorites and all from IE 7 to FF as you follow the instructions. Much safer and better browser and it even has add-ons that block ads and flash and tons of other goodies.I seldom use IE for anything and have no problems. And it's faster than IE.
