Free Advice for Mitt Romney

Hatched by Dafydd

I wonder if Romney reads blogs?

I have some campaign advice for him, a way to turn the biggest hit against him into a Reaganesque, "there you go again" moment...

When Gov. Romney finds himself in a debate with the Democratic nominee, and the Democrat accuses the governor of having "flip-flopped" on abortion, on taxes, on this or that; then Romney should look him or her in the eye and say, "Senator... I didn't flip-flop. I wised up."

It'll bring the house down, and it will be the moment everyone remembers from the GOP landslide of 2008.

Do you really expect Romney to end up in a debate with a Democratic nominee?

Steve:

Yes... either as president, or if Fred Thompson gets in the race, as VP.

McCain is self destructing, and Giuliani is ultimately going to be found to be too liberal for the GOP primary voters, I believe.

I expect a race between Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney against Al Gore and whoever he selects for his VP. Then Romney can use this line! (Though he might have to change the first words to "sir.")

Dafydd, see, I think you're on to something with VP Gore. I think he's waiting just like Sen. Thompson's waiting.

I think he thinks nothing would be better than defeating HC and ending the Clinton's strangle hold on the Democratic Party. And believe the Daily Kos frothy mouthed base doesn't like her either.

Vintage Ronald Reagan. Mitt Romney, who is in my view amongst the announced candidates the most acceptable, doesn't have that kind of style. He is too thoughtful and analytical to have the timing to pull it off. No deal breaker there. Winning the quip war gets you good press but has nothing to do with effectively executing his duties.

Perhaps the most famous zinger occurred during the vice presidential debate of 1988 where Lloyd Bentsen said to Dan Quayle "I knew Jack Kennedy. You're no Jack Kennedy". I watched it. Great line. Lot's of excitement. Quayle became VP.

I thougt then that the killer response was "Senator, my admiration for Jack Kennedy is immense but, frankly, if I were Jack Kennedy my dear Marilyn would not be here with me tonight".

Would have won the quip war. Might have lost the election.

Romney pulling it off? Not his style. Thompson? I'd sure like to watch.
