Warner Blithers

Hatched by Dafydd

Republican Sen. John Warner (R-VA, 88%), former chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on the desperate need to garner more support for the Iraq war:

Mr. Warner said that while he saw “no direct parallels” between the Iraq situation and the United States involvement in Vietnam, he said that he vividly recalls the decline of American public and political support for the Vietnam war, when he was Navy Secretary. Restoring support for the Iraq mission and assuring American success there is essential, he said.

...And that's why he's co-sponsoring one of the two Senate resolutions saying the president's plan is doomed to fail!

John Warner: rocket scientist.

Ann Coulter called him Elizabeth Taylor's [the name you said I cannot call John Murtha]. I took umbrage primarily because I consider Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren the best arguments ever made for polygamy and secondarily because Ann Coulter has a worse record than I have for saying stupid things. Still ... even a dirty-mouthed skinny blonde can sometimes find an acorn.

Death by a thousand cuts, war by a thousand armchair generals, doom by a kajillion sincere and opportunistic detractors. If Warner and fellow geniuses believe this surge of a few more troops will hurt our war effort, then why not draw down our numbers to really “help”?? Or, is there some quantifiable perfection in the pre-surge numbers of troops in theater?

While I have never compared Iraq to Viet Nam, the way the congress is acting that may very well turn out to be true. Why they are so blind as to be unwilling to see that such actions are only helping assure defeat, or more probably are actively working for defeat is beyond me. Ah, but they support the troops. That last is said with a little sarcasm. I wonder why they hate their own country so much.
