Last Word on Kerrying Water

Hatched by Dafydd

Thanks to commenter Jonathan Haas, I have now viewed the comment in context (click on John Kerry Speaks a Rally In Pasadena, sic)... and it is now plain to me that it was, in fact, a botched joke.

However, it is also quite clear that Sen. John F. Kerry (D-MA, 100%) said exactly what he meant to say. The reason he resisted apologizing for so long is that the "joke" was just what he said: if you don't study, you'll end up stuck in Iraq, as one of those lazy, dumb soldiers.

The opening is a series of three jokes, of which this is the third: but he says it smoothly, not stumbling; he does indeed have a smirk as he says it; and the audience laughs. There is nothing whatsoever to indicate, in even the faintest degree, that he meant to say "you end up getting us stuck in Iraq," referring to that lazy, dumb President Bush (who got at least a good a GPA at Yale and Harvard as did Kerry). Not at all.

This ends the discussion as far as I'm concerned. He was mocking the troops for being lazy and stupid; end of story, so far as this lizard is concerned.

You are right, but the "little smirk" was so little I didn't see it. I also noticed that he sped right through the "punch line," as if he might have realized that threatening students with a trip to Iraq wasn't particularly funny. That it also insulted those already there, I am sure, never crossed his mind.

He was an elitist, one of those Anointed who are qualified, by their intellectual and moral superiority, to rule over the rest of us. He was speaking to a group of acolytes, urging them to become Anointed, too. He was reminding them that, if they "try to be smart," they won't end up like the rest of the plebes.

That he feels the need to say he misspoke, or to blame the VWRC, just tells us that the "joke" was intended to be aimed at those outside the ruling elites, not to be heard by "them" and certainly not to be challenged. What asenine arrogance.

Wow, I now understand why the Media kept playing just a small snippet of that presentation...

When you hear Kerry in context, he sounds even worse than when you hear the truncated remarks.

He's apologized, and so is 'immune' from criticism in this election cycle, but I think he has to be resigned to a career as a Senator; National Office is beyond this guy's reach. There is nothing exculpating in this clip when it comes to his remarks about the troops that I can hear either.

Excellent analysis Dafydd; I concur 100%. I excerpted and linked at Jean Fraud Kerry -- Still Lovin' Our Troops -- Day 2.

Johnny thinks it's over now that he's "apologized." Not by a long shot. It will be "over" the day River Rat (see Kerrying Water) and I and thousands like us can line up to water the grass on Johnny's grave, and not a day before.

BTW, we have some cool "Proud Veteran-American" and "Proud American Veteran" gear available in the Old War Dogs CafePress shop. Just the thing for the next Kerry Lied rally, or for his funeral. His recent activities haven't been hurting our sales a bit.

The only thing John Forbes Kerry is sorry for, is the fact he got caught saying what was in his heart of hearts.

That's his view of the military.

Botched joke my Aunt Fanny!

Has there been any /real/ apology, or is he still giving us that old "I'm sorry that those nasty Republicans chose to deliberately distort my remarks" line? Is he sorry for insulting our heroes, or sorry he got called on his disgusting remarks?

Kerry was flunking out of school, he approached his draft board for a deferal (I think it was his 5th one)to go to Paris. It was denied. Hence he was forced to enlist. He tried to be smart about it and choose the US navel reserves, where he may never leave the states but got deployed. I think he believes that because he didn't get good grades he got stuck in Vietnam.

Sure it was a joke, a sick, shameful and insulting one.

Know anyone good at digging up facts on the net?
I recall from 2004 where he claimed that some outragous thing he'd said, only came out the way it had because he'd left out a line from his prepared text. Which was obvious horsecrap.

This lie about his faux pax is part deux.

Just which I could remember the details.

"Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up chasing rich young heiresses and even richer widows for their money."

Thanks for the hat tip. It should be noted that Kerry's first two jokes were:

"Sunday we set our clocks back by an hour, the Republicans want to set them back to 1958."

"George Bush used to live in the state of Texas, now he lives in the state of denial."

Har! What brilliant bons mots! What stunning examples of cutting political barbs! It's obvious, is it not, that when Kerry manages not to botch a joke, he is truly a shining wit.

Oops, I made a Spoonerism.

Hey, hey, hey.

Let's give Kerry a little credit. I'm sure when he was in the military the average intelligence of the soldiers wasn't all that high.

Of course it improved markedly once he left for civilian life.

Thank you. Please tip your waitresses.
