Zarqawi: Planting IEDs or Pushing Up Daisies?

Hatched by Dafydd

We're still waiting for final word on whether any of the bodies found after the gunfight we discussed here more than a week ago was that of Musab Zarqawi. Last we heard, the Pentagon was testing the DNA... but we haven't heard any results.

Do any of you readers have any more recent information? A definitive answer? You'd think we would have heard one way or the other by now.

Thanks, folks!

And, if i was Zarqawi, and i wanted to play dead for a while, i would have chosen a nice, close, cousin to wear my suicide belt. DNA testing is only conclusive if you have sufficient target sample on file. Otherwise, they try to match DNA against relatives.

If I was going to bet on it, I'd have to say, "No, 'twasn't him." I think we'd have heard by now if they had gotten him.

As part of that, I'd also point to a recent report of US Marines doing a hot pursuit into Syria. No real confirmation on it, but it came shortly after the initial reports on Zarqawi. If you link the two, then perhaps he wasn't there but may have been close by and then was pursued towards the Syrian border...all speculation, of course.

But I hope I'm wrong and that he's a pile of burned trash!

Dafydd,

There hasn't been enough time yet for reasonably definitive results. Remember that we are dealing with clans, many of whom are not as outbred as our people are.

Unless the "definitive result" was "nope, definitely no Zarqawi."

That means he's still in the running to be no longer in the running!

OOOH-rah!
